Cheltenham became famous as a Spa in the late 18th century when the rich and famous followed the King to Cheltenham to take the waters - you can still sample the mineral water today.

Known as the home of National Hunt Racing, the famous Cheltenham Gold Cup takes place in March and is a highlight of the racing calendar.

Similar to Bath in appearance, Cheltenham maintains its Regency grandeur; many of the buildings retain their original wrought-iron work balconies and verandas. Laid out in fine squares with wide tree-lined streets, terraces and elegant crescents, the splendid Grecian style buildings were erected in the local golden stone.
