The capital of Scotland, Edinburgh is the home of the Scottish Parliament.
Robert the Bruce granted Edinburgh and the port of Leith its charter and the prosperity of the town grew from this time. Edinburgh is home to the world's oldest independent department store and the world famous Royal Botanic Garden. Many classical buildings inspired by ancient Greece grace the city centre and from these, Edinburgh became known as the "Athens of the North".
