Nottingham is of course famous for Robin Hood, but many other famous people are associated with the town including Lord Byron and William Booth, founder of the Salvation Army. Boots the chemist started in Nottingham in 1888.
Nottingham castle stands high on the city skyline but beneath the town there is a labyrinth of over 400 man-made caves.
The history of Nottingham can be traced at The Brewhouse Yard Museum; here you will also learn about Nottingham's industrial heritage and the local lace industry. Nottingham led the way in developing the machines that took lace making from a cottages industry to factory mechanisation and this fascinating story is told at the Museum of Nottingham Lace.
Nottingham has over 200 restaurants any many interesting pubs; one of which Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem is reputedly England's oldest inn. Nottingham also has England’s oldest established football club; Notts County formed in 1862.
