An ancient town, Leicester became the centre of the hosiery trade.
There has been a market at Leicester since 1200AD. At Jewry Wall there is still evidence of the Roman occupation, it is the site of the largest Roman bath in England and the famous Peacock mosaic pavement.
Leicester Castle ruins and the Castle Gardens can still be seen at The Castle Mound whilst The Guildhall is a unique Grade I listed medieval building that dates back to the 14th Century.
Leicester's Golden Mile is home to the Asian Quarter and offers true Indian food, at one of the specialist Restaurants on the Belgrave Road.
