At KDM Events Management, we design our challenges with two goals in mind. The first is that we want your team to have as much fun as possible. The second goal is that we want our challenges to teach team building skills and encourage synergy. But that’s not all they do. Some of our challenges are doing something else — they teach your team members crucial leadership skills. Scroll below to see our top 5 events to build leadership skills.
The Dragon Boat Race is one of the hardest tests we have, but it’s also one of the best ways of building teamwork and synergy. It’s also the ideal way of gauging your team’s ability to work as one during a high-takes, stressful time outside of work. More importantly, though, it’s one of the funniest events that we offer.
Based on an ancient Chinese fertility ritual, the Dragon Boat Race is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. The event starts with a talk from our experienced events manager, who will instruct your team on how to stop and start the boat and what to do in case it capsizes. From there, it’s just a simple day at the races.
If you want, you can have your team nominate a coxswain to serve as the temporary leader and set the speed. Alternatively, you can pick someone to serve as coxswain yourself. From there, it’s a simple task of sitting back and evaluating how the coxswain handles the responsibility. If you want to evaluate multiple people, you can easily rotate coxswains between races. Alternatively, if your team is big enough, you can hire multiple boats and have your coxswain compete against each other.
Because it takes real synergy to win, The Dragon Boat Race is another of those really great events for team building
The really great thing about Remastered is that it’s a natural setting where someone, as a director, will take charge of the entire project without any direction on your part. This allows you to evaluate your team and see how they work under the director’s management style without making them aware that you’re evaluating them. And because film making is at least in some way collaborative, it’s also a great way to practice some soft team building.
More than that, though, is the fact that, unlike most options on this list, it’s a challenge that can’t be won or lost. A good Remastered film is a nice token of a fun day that your team will remember forever and can be put in a place of honour at your office. But a bad one is something that everyone on your team will be able to enjoy together and share their laughter. Not only is it a token, but it can become an office legend. For your director, it’s a chance to take charge and learn their own management style, and it’s a chance for you to evaluate them. With the Remastered challenge, everyone wins.
What could be better than that?
Crystal Mazed is another great opportunity for you to find and test your team’s leadership skills while also undertaking some soft team building. Because part of the challenge involves different people doing different challenges based on their skills and abilities, you’ll find that certain members of your team naturally take on informal management roles.
This is a perfect chance for your team members to learn and practice useful leadership skills in a non-work setting. It’s also the perfect setting for you to see how your evaluees manage their subordinates.
If you want, you can play a more active role and give them tips and tricks throughout the challenge. At KDM, we can customize a challenge in a wide variety of ways — all you have to do is to get in touch with us, and we’ll see what we can do.
GPS Treasure Hunt is another of those great opportunities for your team to do some team building while gaining useful team leadership skills in a challenging yet rewarding setting. In this challenge, your team uses a combination of knowledge-based questions and movement to navigate the terrain and find the treasure — with optional challenges along the way. At the end of the challenge the team in the right place with the most points wins.
As with many of the other challenges that we’ve already described, the GPS Treasure Hunt is fully customizable — meaning that you can modify the challenge in any way that you see fit. Want to challenge your team with questions that relate to leadership skills? We can arrange that. Prefer to have one of the rules being that your team has to decide roles before starting the challenge? That can easily be arranged for you.
