The 2021 Olympics are officially over. The flames have been quenched, and the competitors are slowly making their way home. However, just because the Olympics have officially ended, it doesn’t mean that the spirit of the Olympics has to go away. With any one of these events, it's possible to harness that Olympic Spirit and use it in your own team working efforts.
We love the Olympics here at KDM Event Management. Not only does it mean people from all over the world can come together in the spirit of peace — although that’s a big part of it — but it’s also because the Olympics are where real sporting history is made. Since the first athletes gathered in Ancient Olympia, the games have captured the emotions and imaginations of people from all over the world and been an inspiration to millions — including all of us here at KDM.
Because we’ve been so inspired by this years’ Olympics, we’ve put together this guide to show you how we can help you and your team stay in the Olympic spirit and harness that spirit for your team building efforts, even though the games are over for another three years.
Our official response to the Olympics is a physical team building event that we like to call The Games. Everybody can be a superstar with this event. Fun-filled, energetic, and great for getting those competitive energies flowing, The Games has proven to be a big hit with teams across the UK.
How Does It Work?
Guests are allocated into teams to represent a specific country, the event commences with everyone participating in a lively aerobic warm-up session, delivered by our Head Coach and their team! Once you’re feeling warmed up, competitors from each country compete in a selection of exciting events designed to test skill, stamina, and team spirit. The Games is great for team building because it helps to show people how everyone’s strength contributes to success.
Team sizes and the duration of the event can vary greatly. The minimum number of people who can take part is 10 and the maximum is 540 – we weren’t kidding when we said we’d be keeping the Olympic spirit alive! Likewise, The Games could take anything between 2.5 to 3 hours to complete depending on the size of your team and how many events they take part in. This means your Games can be radically different from the Games being played by other teams.
Like the Olympics, the Games are split into a number of different sports that your team will compete in. These include:
The Games is the ideal event if you really want to tap into the spirit of the Olympics and do some serious team building. Not only is it directly physically modeled after the games, but they’re also spiritually modeled after them. We’ve really tried hard to tap into that Olympic spirit!
And thanks to the wide variety of games, contestants have a higher chance of finding one they excel in. For example, a contestant may not be the best at Track and Field but excel at archery. Because of this, we consider The Games to be highly inclusive and ideal for a team with a wide set of strengths and abilities.
The Games also offers a great mix of both competitive and collaborative team building games which can help to improve communication skills, identify natural born leaders, increase collaboration and push your team to challenge themselves too!
But the Games aren’t for everyone — even though we try to make it as inclusive as possible. If those sports aren’t your cup of tea, we have other options. If your team is more of a knockout group of people, why not try our Out of Office Olympics?
Inspired by It’s a Knockout, our Step Out of the Office Event is a blend of inflatable games and fun bonus rounds, wrapped in the flag of the Olympic Games. More importantly, it’s a lot of fun!
Your team will take the place of various national teams as they compete against each other for the Olympic Championship. If you want, you can take things to the next level and challenge your team to try out our 90 ft assault course — where your team’s balance, endurance, and speed are all tested — just like at the official Olympics!
Step Out of The Office is another great event for team building. Like The Games, it encourages competitors to recognise everyone’s specific strengths and teaches them how to best make use of everyone.
If a long series of games isn’t right for your team, we also offer a range of exciting stand-alone games to suit your needs…
For example, our combat archery event is everything the Olympics’ archery event is and more.
While it would be strange for Olympic athletes to aim at each other, the same can’t be said for contestants taking part in our combat archery competition! The arrows have been designed to cause no discomfort upon impact and your team will be supplied with a mask to protect their faces for extra protection. The event is fast-paced and active, ideal for any team that wants to get out and stretch their legs.
Or maybe you want to do something a little more out of the box? Or, should we say, out on the water? That’s our Dragon Boat Race.
With its own history that stretches back over 2,000 years, the Dragon Boat Race Event is designed for the ambitious team who are eager to test their mettle against each other and the harsh waters and is suitable for teams of any size between 10 and 200. An exciting and exhilarating way of motivating and integrating staff from all areas of the company, the sport’s biggest appeal lies in its ability to get everyone working together in a short space of time – it also leads to some pretty amazing team photos too!
