KDM achieve Emerald Partner status with Donna Louise Trust

October 2011

KDM have recently achieved Emerald Partner status with Donna Louise Trust after donating £10,000 to the charity over the last two years.

The Donna Louise Children’s Hospice, www.donnalouisetrust.org, is based in Stoke-on-Trent and provides a range of specialist care and support services for children with a shortened life expectancy and their families.

KDM first got involved with the charity in 2009 when selected to provide an African Dream themed fundraiser evening to celebrate the charity’s 10th anniversary. After the success of the 2009 event the summer ball became an annual event and KDM has been involved in the organisation of the ball ever since, providing a Flight of Fantasy themed event in 2010 and a Jazzmatazz Ball in 2011.

The charity is a very worthy cause and KDM are proud to be able to support them in the invaluable service they provide.

Kreative Drama Magazine Wins Publishing Deal

October 2011

Kreative Drama Magazine beat FHM and Water Babes to a publishing deal following a competitive pitching process to a top publishing mogul on Tuesday this week. The winning entry, imaginatively entitled Kreative Drama Magazine, is a KDM gossip magazine detailing scandals and drama in the exciting world of corporate events. Unfortunately, it won’t be available on the shelves of your newsagent as it was only the brain child of KDM’s very own Alan, Craig, Katie and Sam who were taking part in Magazine Mogul training.

The whole KDM team took part in Magazine Mogul training led by, Senior Event Manager, Garry Holford. Divided into teams the challenge was to produce a magazine layout for a particular type of publication. Provided with costumes and a press pack, including laptop and digital camera each team worked as the design, copy and photographic departments to pull together the magazine.

There is plenty of scope for cross-dressing – though the KDM team were very restrained with Sarah posing as a gladiator, Darran as a fireman and Craig as Kevin! We had a hobby magazine for those with a love of animals that reside in water including otters and beavers and a men’s lifestyle magazine with a focus on heroes who save cats from trees but end up getting attacked like a ‘gang of angry otters’. Using props including a giant anvil, a rat cuddly toy and a pound costume the event was lots of fun, had something for everyone and really allowed the creative juices to flow.

Magazine Mogul is a highly interactive and fun team building event designed to stretch participants’ minds, test communication skills and reinforce the value of good time management and teamwork. To enquire about this or any other event please contact us.

Brand Spanking New Mega Quiz

October 2011

Last Wednesday the KDM sales team swapped the office and telephones for the unit and hand buzzers as we tested the brand spanking new Mega Quiz.

Divided into two teams we took our seats and having been introduced to the event we focused on coming up with team names.

Imaginatively named ‘Team 1’ and ‘Team 2’ we were then guided through the event by our glittering hosts Alan and Garry.

From questions about the Bronte siblings to Roquefort cheese and working out if that photo is of Bruce Willis with hair, the event was hilarious fun!

The new format incorporates both paper based and on-screen rounds, in which teams buzz in their answers using state of the art hand-held keypads. With brand new rounds including the ‘Rogues Gallery’ and ‘Little Kidder’, the event is looking better than ever thanks to the masterful design work by KDM’s very own Graeme.

The Mega Quiz is ideal for after dinner corporate entertainment. For more information and costs on this event (and any others) please give us a call.

Keeping us on our toes

October 2011

When a client called the KDM office at 4.30pm on the 3rd August to say they would like inflatable beach volleyball at their summer party we advised this wasn’t a problem. The catch? The event was at midday on the 4th August.

As we own 99% of the equipment used to run our events and employ full time Event Managers last minute events aren’t a problem for us.

In fact you might say last minute events are our forte. They are what keep us on our toes.

So, if you have a corporate event enquiry, even if it’s tomorrow, give us a call. Chances are we’ll be able to help!

‘The Tadpole’ Triumphs in Triathlon Tester

August 2011

Inspired by watching her son Brad take part in last year’s London Triathlon our Director Kathy decided she could not be outdone. Off down the shops, for a wet suit and bike (she already has 63 pairs of trainers) and training began.Kathy Davies - Director
‘Oh yeah’, we said. We were wrong. The usual running regime had biking and swimming added and the tempo increased as the big day approached. Off to Excel last weekend with 14,999 other competitors for the world’s largest Triathlon and whilst she did look a wee bit nervous a little shopping was squeezed into the morning’s preparation.

Supported by husband Kevin – from the rigours of the beer tent – a 750m swim in St Katherine’s Dock was followed by 20 km on the bike and a 5 km road run resulting in the tremendous time of 1 hour 55 mins.
… and ‘The Tadpole’? – have you seen the picture?

Boris the Baby Bat Bombs in on the KDM Team

August 2011

Wikipedia tells us that bats are the only mammals naturally capable of true and sustained flight – but Boris the baby Bat would beg to differ; flying doesn’t come naturally to him at all 🙁
Boris the baby Bat

He landed on the floor of the M D’s office at KDM’s head office in Trentham sometime on Wednesday night and was found awaiting rescue on Thursday morning by Kevin.  Boris – named following a pretty biased vote comprising a fully inclusive electorate of Accounts Supremo Maria and no-one else – spent the next few hours in a makeshift bat house, carefully constructed by the ever thoughtful Maria. He found comfort in a duster and sipped from a tea spoon until the whole team had to say our final goodbyes when Suzanne, a Bat Carer with the Bat Conservation Society flew in to take him to the Bat Hospital where he will be fed on bugs, taught to fly and be cared for until he is fighting fit when he will be returned to Trentham to play once again with his Bat Mates.

While Boris is recovering, plans for his return are already in motion, as corporate entertainment experts we can’t resist the opportunity to plan a welcome home party – the Bat Man, Robin and Bat Lady costumes are on order, the champagne is on ice … Gotham City here we come!

KDM see Red and do a bit of Team Building!

July 2011

Seeing Red … KDM’s Team Building Event. Well not really but to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the British Heart Foundation’s “Red for Heart” Campaign, the KDM Events Team saw this as an opportunity for our own team building activity! We organised the day so all 16 of us wore red items of clothing, and could participate in the mini-games we organised which included how many red M ‘n’ Ms are in the jar! We also had a ‘bake off’ between the ladies (not very pc round here! and anyway the blokes are useless at cooking) which included jam tarts, cupcakes and a whole tart which Sarah McGregor won for her scrumptious tasting, red coloured cupcakes!
Our Team Build raised £46.75 for the British Heart Foundation, we all had a lovely, fun day and then went down the pub to get red noses!

Switching a day in the office for a 106 mile bike ride … are you crazy?

July 2011

Well, the crazy culprit was Caroline Archer, our recent addition to the direct sales team. Caroline switched organising Corporate Events for a day to organise and participate in a Charity Cycle Ride to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Caroline and 15 fellow cyclists cycled 106 miles from Lullington to Skegness in 11 hours, successfully completing the challenge to do it in a day!

After this energetic outburst Caroline is back gingerly seated in the office ensuring everyone’s Team Building and Corporate Event needs are looked after.

The bike ride raised over £6,000 which included kind donations from the whole KDM Events Team!

Sheep seek Corporate Entertainment with KDM!

April 2011

It might have been a long hard day, but to emerge from the office at chucking out time on a busy industrial estate to see mother sheep and her two black lambs entering our yard was a turn up for the books! Cheeky blighters just looked at us and strolled nonchalantly in.

Being public spirited we shut the gate behind them thinking we would entertain them whilst we scratched our heads trying to work out how to find the farmer.

Plan B however quickly had to spring into action as all three of them promptly decided to ignore the weeds we’ve been trying to kill and instead decided to munch our carefully cultivated shrubs. Picky little devils!

Yikes! Now if Meirion and David had been here with the sheep dogs then no worries but instead a bunch of desk jockeys turned quickly into cowhands and, showing the creativity and rapid response for which we are renowned, somehow managed to usher the sheep from the yard onto the street and then ‘direct’ them somehow back into their field. Mint sauce anybody?
