Gone to the dogs? Not a chance! A Three Day Product Launch – Creative Team Building and Unique Party Theming

September 2017

An event to mark the launch of a ground-breaking animal healthcare product, developed by a global healthcare leader. While the new brand would be a transformational offering, it would be entering an already-satisfied market place competing against established household name products.

The internal staff launch, therefore, had the critical mission of galvanising the salesforce with team building activities to challenge the status quo and confidently sell the revolutionary new brand, while assisting direct-selling customers to regain business that was currently being lost through other channels.

The three-day launch would bring together over 150 employees in what was briefed as a transformational event that would enable and empower staff to ‘create great’.

Creating a transformational event

Having won a three-way pitch, for the provision of the event’s operational content, KDM Events had a four-week window in which to source two venues one for the accommodation and business content, and the other for the product launch itself and to design a dedicated delegate registration website for streamlined and effective event management.

The branding and the concept behind the launch theme had been designed by healthcare strategy and communications specialist, Cognite.  KDM was tasked with conveying Cognite’s ‘Transformational’ theme into the look and feel for the events.

We also produced two key elements of the internal launch – the gala dinner and team building activity.

Day One of the three-day product launch conference saw the 150 delegates engaged in business unit meetings, using multiple meeting rooms at London’s Tower Hotel.  The unveiling of the new product took place on Day Two, at iconic events space Vinopolis. The surprise guest speaker was distinguished physicist and presenter Professor Brian Cox, who inspired the audience with a scientific talk echoing and expanding on the launch’s ‘Transformational’ theme.

The gala dinner at the Tower Hotel saw the venue ‘transformed’ in the new product logo colours with creative table and room dressing.  Mind reader Alex Crow delighted guests with a personalised cabaret while a customised photo studio provided delegates with souvenir photos linked to the product.

Day Three of the launch provided an opportunity for delegates to put their understanding of the new product into practice, through one of our most popular and unique team building activities, the Stop Motion Animation techniques made popular by Aardman Studio’s ‘Wallace & Gromit’.  In this highly creative session, delegates worked in teams using modelling clay and craft materials as well as mini studios and recording equipment to create, film and edit their own movies.  The exercise stretched participants to communicate ideas in new ways and brought out strong teamwork, planning and production skills.

Our very happy client said:  “Both the choice of venues and the launch content reinforced the brand’s essence and core values.  The event’s messaging and delivery helped support our team to further believe in the product and they came away energised and ready to ‘create great’ and be ‘transformational’ in the field.  We are confident that they will be able to challenge perceptions, and encourage direct-selling customers to rethink and become brand ambassadors in their own right.”

A result any events company would be proud of!

High Energy Injection – Team Building & Conference Event Management

August 2017

The Finance division of a global construction machinery giant initially approached KDM with a view to putting together a team building activity event, which would be a key element of its annual company conference.

The conference would be exclusively for the Finance division staff, with a lot of the content structured around the company’s varied product range. The organisers were hoping to squeeze a hefty agenda into a very tight timeframe, and after the day’s business sessions the participants would attend a reception followed by an awards evening. For the Midlands – based company, the Mere Golf Resort and Spa hotel offered the ideal event location.

Having discovered that KDM are in fact a full-service Events Company providing not only team building activities & entertainment, but also event management & conference production, our client expanded our brief somewhat in order lighten their own event planning burden.

While our event manager worked closely with the client during the planning phase, we picked up new tasks to assist with event production including full event management & support for the day’s programme to ensure the smooth running of the events. We devised a bespoke 30-minute Family Fortunes – style ice-breaker focussed team building session in the afternoon, involving questions based on the company’s products – teams answered 19 specially-prepared questions on screen, using table buzzers and added sound effects contributed to the competitive atmosphere.

For the conference as a whole KDM provided full AV support, including set and stage, audio, video and lighting.

Any fatigue felt by the 82 delegates at the end of their day of business sessions was soon dispelled by our evening entertainment in the shape of nine-piece soul and latin band, which injected high energy into a very lively evening drinks reception.

For the awards dinner, the venue was transformed with a vibrant turquoise and orange theme, continuing the buzz of the preceding upbeat reception. As well as colour-wash lighting around the room, we provided specially designed table centres that continued the flamboyant theme.

In addition to assisting with conference event management, KDM provided AV support for the awards dinner, as well as music to accompany the presentations for each of the winning categories.

Speaking after the event our client said: “Conference went very well, everything was brilliant, band provided were amazing – table dressing and room looked great.”

Mr Bond … I’ve been expecting you – Comprehensive Event Management with a Creative Team Building Twist

July 2017

After KDM had delivered a successful corporate team building activity event in 2015 for the UK’s largest full-service dental dealer, our client contacted us again – initially requesting a team engagement activity. As it turned out, our assignment was to evolve into a much more comprehensive event management package, and one with a distinctly Secret Service theme!

Our original brief was for an indoor-based, competitive team building event, by providing team building activities incorporating teamwork, creativity, and most of all, fun to appeal to the company’s 60-strong sales team during its annual conference. Cue ‘The Chocolatier’s Apprentice’ an engaging, entertaining and creative team building activity that had teams using a range of skills from creative thinking to budgeting, sales and marketing…all involving chocolate!

Learning that there was no AV provision in place for the company’s conference presentations, we proposed our full in-house AV package for the day and evening. This meant that presentations were made on stage during the morning’s business meeting and then teams had the opportunity to pitch ideas for the afternoon’s Chocolatier’s Apprentice team build to their unsuspecting competitors. We also took care of the conversion of the stage, set and lighting to create the perfect atmosphere for the evening’s Company Awards ceremony and themed dinner party.

In honour of the recently-released Bond film, Spectre, the awards dinner was transformed into a ‘shaken not stirred’ cocktail of sumptuous black and silver table dressing and elegant glass table centrepieces. Giant event props were used to dress the room and create a Bond theme, and an elegant Hollywood style red carpet lined the dining room entrance. Retro games provided the informal entertainment for the evening.

Finally, our in-house professional event photographer captured the highlights of the day’s activities and evening award celebrations. As an events company who pride ourselves on great value & quality by employing our own full-time event management & production team, we were delighted to offer our in-house professional event photographer to capture the highlights of the day’s team building activities & evening award celebrations.

The client’s verdict

“Fabulous feedback…The team did a great job, seamless transition from afternoon to evening! The Chocolatier event delivered in every respect – team building, leadership, creativity and most of all fun. Sensational! As always – you guys are really easy to work with. Till the next time.”

Looking forward to it Mr Bond!

Bravura Party Performance at Stamford Bridge – Star Studded Conference Event Management

July 2017

Asked to produce an action-packed motivational staff party at a landmark London venue, KDM’s corporate event squad brought Hollywood to Chelsea FC for a star-studded experience.

About our client
Our client is part of a leading UK merchant banking group listed on the FTSE 250 index and one of the City’s most enterprising and respected banks. A pioneering provider of premium finance with a 35-year pedigree, the company helps over a million people across the UK and Ireland spread the cost of their insurance policy.

The brief
With a strong commitment to customer service and an industry-leading staff training programme, the company sees employee engagement as critical to its business success. KDM had been producing annual employee events, ranging from corporate team building activities & games through to full conference event management, for this client for the last three years, but its new Chief Executive was keen to kick-off 2015 with a fresh event format that would motivate and reward all 330 staff members for the year ahead.

We were tasked firstly with sourcing a venue exuding real wow-factor that would be sited within a 20-minute radius of our client’s Wimbledon office, and secondly with producing an action-packed evening event combining dinner, dancing and an awards ceremony.

KDM’s response
From a shortlist of six possible venues, we proposed Stamford Bridge – the iconic home of Chelsea FC and ideally located with excellent transport links to neighbouring Wimbledon. Most importantly, the venue’s Great Hall provides a magnificent open space for large-scale company events. Rather than being a dedicated function suite, this versatile area gave us the perfect blank canvas on which to stamp the personality and style that would create an unforgettable corporate event.

‘A Night at the Movies’ was the chosen theme to tie in with their internal communications programme, and with the help of creative lighting, star cloth and giant props, the guests were transported to Hollywood for a night of glitz and glamour. Throughout dinner, a series of themed team building games kept them on the edge of their seats. Contestants won prizes using specially-designed scratch-cards, and each movie-themed table competed to win a celebrity face mashup contest. In addition to a pre-arranged celebrity look-alike contest, guests took selfies, which could be immediately uploaded onto the main screen, offering just one of the evening’s many prize opportunities. Following the company’s award ceremony, an eight-piece band and DJ ensured there was no let-up in adrenalin-fuelled activity. Our Event Management team were delighted with the results and enjoyed the evening almost as much as our client’s guests.

Client feedback
Our seamless event management seems to have paid off! Here’s just a sample of the comments received from the guests:

“A great evening thoroughly enjoyed by all within my teams so thank you so much for putting this on for everyone!”
“Amazing night and a huge thank you to everyone involved in organising it!”
“Great location, fantastic effort with decoration of the main room.”
“It was a well organised evening and I enjoyed myself, it just went too quickly.”
“It was amazing, I felt as if I enjoyed myself too much! Was such a great atmosphere and the marketing team and everyone involved really did pull it out of the bag! Well done”
“The decorations were amazing and loved the Hollywood theme.”

A Great British Party

March 2017

On a crisp Thursday afternoon in January, the KDM Event Management & Delivery team found ourselves at the beautiful Welcombe Hotel & Spa in Stratford, preparing for a last minute conference booked only two weeks prior.

As one of the UK’s largest suppliers to the Event Industry, short lead-in times don’t phase us, our equipment is all stored at our central warehouse, much of it handmade in our own workshop and our full-time Event Managers, trained to produce a huge variety of-of corporate events, are not unfamiliar with acting fast to get the job done!

So what did we produce in those 2 weeks?

Our client, The Dental Directory, one of the largest full-service dental dealers in the UK, tasked us with the provision of a full day experience their delegates wouldn’t forget following successful delivery of the same for their 2016 conference.

We began the conference with set up on Wednesday, KDM’s full AV Package was required throughout the following day along with the technical expertise of our AV staff to ensure a smooth presentation.

Following a morning of company presentations, teams were provided with the necessary tools to produce their own films, their Animation Innovation team build was based around The Dental Directory’s products providing a variety of learning outcomes such as raising team morale and reinforcing product awareness.

While delegates retreated to prepare themselves for the evening, our ground crew got to work turning part of the neo-Jacobean mansion into a Great British Celebration, decorating banqueting furniture with red, white and blue and dressing the room with brilliantly British staples; life-size telephone box, life-size letterbox, giant teacup and saucer and British icon silhouette panels.

The evening’s entertainment was completed with a Great British pub games package and the glossy awards ceremony, captured beautifully a professional photographer, was met with cheers all round!

The client was undoubtedly pleased by the outcome:

“The guys that they did a brilliant job on both days. Set up Wednesday was great and then Thursday the presentations went very well and I was surprised how well the team responded to the animation exercise. As always the games went down well and the gents attending were really helpful, I also held the record for the batak so good day all round!”

KDM takes Brighton Pier to University Campus

June 2016

Crop01Crop02Crop03

When the University of Sussex hosted 220 higher education managers at a special Summer Festival on 15 June, KDM was asked to organise an evening of fun with a distinctive seaside flavour.

The guests were all participants in the annual CUBO (College and University Business Officers) Awards and were treated to a pre-Awards celebration – not on the beach, but at the University’s Falmer campus.

The high-profile CUBO Awards draw entrants from around the country and have previously been held in major cities such as Liverpool, London and Edinburgh.

Sussex University’s Conference Services Manager Wayne Spicer said: “For the first evening of this two-day event we wanted to showcase Brighton’s unique appeal without our guests having to leave the campus, so we decided to bring the flavour of Brighton to them.”

KDM’s event team set-up a seaside-themed photo studio, festival props and lighting, as well as a carousel, dodgems and traditional games.

After a welcome reception at the University’s ACCA Centre, guests enjoyed a cabaret performance by mind reader Alex Crow. Moving outside, they sampled a taste of the Pier with popcorn and candy floss while trying their skills on the coconut shy, crazy golf and a cork gun shooting range.  Giant flags, a stilt walker and juggler added to the carnival atmosphere.

Street Food, provided by Chartwells Higher Education Dining Services, included pulled beef baps, vegetarian baps, chorizo sausages, roasted Mediterranean vegetables, harissa tomato sauce and toasted pitta bread, Prawn Jambalaya, sweet potato and red chilli.

Company Family Fun Day

December 2015

When seeking to celebrate the performance of a company, a popular way of doing so can be to hold a company family fun day – which not only rewards your staff but also thanks to your employees’ families who can play an important yet understated role in the performance and support of your staff.

The Client

KDM Events had worked with a leading house building company for several years delivering team-building events when the question arose of how they may hold a larger event for 300 people in the Summer – but was unsure of how to approach or organise this.

Having first organised a large Company Family Fun Day around the time that Right Said Fred was topping the charts, KDM were perfectly placed to advise on the logistics and requirements around such an event – which has to start with finding a venue that is suitable in terms of both grounds for the various activities, but also has both indoor space in the event of bad weather, and of course sufficient car parking for the large numbers of guests.

We have the advantage of having run events at most major venues throughout the country in our 25 years as business, and site surveys for each which detail the available grounds and space – meaning that KDM was swiftly able to put forward a shortlist of 3 venues which matched this brief and could accommodate the chosen date in July, from which Theobalds Park in Hertfordshire was chosen as the ideal location.

The Event

With the venue and date secured for the Hertfordshire Company Family Fun Day, KDM suggested several packages of activities and entertainment to suit various budget levels – with an important balance to be struck between sufficient activities for the adults, and suitable entertainment for the 80 or so children that were also expected on the day.

The chosen package included some traditional country pursuits, inflatable assault course and eliminator run, fairground games, bouncy castles, children’s slides, face painters, Pimms Barrow, Candy Floss stall amongst others – with KDM’s 16 staff on site from 7am in order to set-up the activities as well as mini marquees, PA, signage, bunting, power and all of the other small logistical details that are 2nd nature to us!

With the Great British Summer playing its role to perfection a great day was had by all, and the benefits that our client reported included increased staff morale, pride in the company, gratitude from employees’ families and also that the event provided an important opportunity for employees to connect and communicate in a more informal setting.

Point S Celebrates the Fourth of July – Case Study

November 2015

KDM transformed a Grade II conference centre in the heart of the Warwickshire countryside into the setting for a Fourth of July corporate party, ensuring the perfect balance between business networking and having fun.

About our client: Point S is well on its way to becoming one of the automotive sector’s go-to brands for tyres – favoured by consumers and fleet operators alike.  Over its forty-year history, the company has become established as one of Europe’s leading suppliers of tyres, wheels and car service with an ever-increasing global footprint.  In just five years, over 200 independently-owned centres have joined its UK network, benefitting from the brand’s values and commitment to customer service.

point s logo
The Brief: With a network of independent service centres that spans the country, opportunities for relationship-building are taken seriously and Point S places great value on the annual summer party organised for the company’s staff and partners.

Raising the star-spangled banner

The party date was set for July 4th, making the theme of Independence Day an easy choice, and the chosen venue was dedicated conference centre Ashorne Hill in Warwickshire.  But when it came to making the Stars and Stripes event really come to life, the venue’s manager suggested that Point S should consult a professional event organiser. Enter KDM.

Delighting the guests

We overlayed the Fourth of July theming through of all the venue’s event areas – Bar, Restaurant and Foyer – with customised table dressings, painted backdrops and giant props such as Stars and Stripes flags.  KDM provided indoor and outdoor themed games and entertainers, including a caricaturist who delighted the guests with his impromptu sketches.

To help the 130 guests recognise staff, both from Point S HQ and the event’s sponsor, Apollo, KDM’s graphics department designed bespoke ‘Wanted’ posters showing photos of key individuals. These were displayed around the venue.  To maintain the American theming throughout the event, we sourced contemporary country music and created a playlist.  With the partying in full flow,  a country band and disco provided live entertainment until 1.00am.

Client feedback

Sam Simpson from Point S, who was responsible for the event said: “Right from the start KDM were great to work with, Garry was great and had everything organised and all the guys with him were so lovely and helpful and did a great job.  Also, Clive the Caricaturist was fantastic and he mingled around with people early on which went down really well. It was excellent and the props etc. were great.  I can’t wait now for our next one and I will definitely be contacting you again.”

Brighton Festival Anyone?

November 2014

The chance to work on a truly bespoke event is always an exciting prospect, and a recent event delivered for a leading Housing Association & Developer was certainly no exception!

The brief from the client was very simple – they wanted to create an indoor festival atmosphere for their annual staff away-day for 250 guests, to be held in a unique & quirky venue.

Hence the 1st task was to source a suitable location & venue for the event, step forward Brighton Dome which is a renowned multi-arts venue located in the heart of Brighton – its origins date back over 200 years, and the character & enormity of the Corn Exchange room provided just the right environment to allow for lots of varied entertainment, food and drink to keep the group engaged over the 4 hour event.

Of course food is supremely important and as the venue is ‘dry-hire’  we worked with independent caterers to find the best solution to keep within the catering budget. Fish & Chips was the perfect menu for the day to deliver the fun informal festival theme and tie in with the venue being by the seaside!

A mix of music, live comedy, games, green screen photo studio and simulators gave the vibrant festival feel the client was looking for and we chose to book Dan Mitchell to act as both compere & comedian. Dan is a veteran of the comedy circuit appearing on a number of TV shows & didn’t disappoint on the day!

Following the serving of lunch & Dan’s stand-up set, the DJ kicked-in for the remainder of the event whilst guests enjoyed a variety of games & activities ranging from Crazy Golf & Test Your Strength, to a Rodeo Bull & Surf Simulator amongst many others. Our green screen photo studio was popular with guests enjoying posing on the Brighton Pier…whilst remaining warm and dry inside!

20141003_132940 resized20141003_125723 resized

On the day itself our team of 7 Event Managers were on-site from 7.30am to transform the room, set up the various games & activities along with managing the delivery of tables, caterers, comedians and DJs. As a lasting memento for the client, our staff were also able to film the event to produce a 3 minute video recap of the day – ensuring that the event will live on in the client’s memory!

Most importantly the client’s feedback was that “The event & venue were fantastic – we have had very good feedback from everyone, who all seemed to thoroughly enjoy the event”.

Now enough words! See the video of the day here

Sabre are Shaken not Stirred…

July 2014

Whilst it may be a cliché to state that no two events are the same, this was certainly proven to be the case when KDM were recently tasked by leading technology company Sabre with organising a bespoke event for 30 VIP clients of CEO level from across the world – with the brief involving The Shard, James Bond, creativity & technology.

Our initial thought was for a unique James Bond themed experience using classic cars in Central London; however upon considering the logistics of transporting guests around Central London at a pace quicker than a comatose snail we unfortunately had to shelve this idea.

However from this came the inspiration for a unique event – a James Bond themed GPS Treasure Hunt, but with a rather unique format!

Hence after a briefing south of the river, guests were met by a fleet of black cabs with all drivers suitably dressed for the occasion – to be ferried to an exclusive Private Member’s club in the heart of the City, for a martini-making masterclass.  After learning the history & basics behind 007’s favoured martini’s (and some equally important tastings), teams were put on the spot to design their own martini, with the outcome judged by our very own barman.

Part one of the challenge over, guests were then transported to a variety of locations including the National Portrait Gallery & Westminster Abbey to tackle a range of Bond themed questions & challenges, finishing up at the Shard before the results of the event were announced later that evening at the James Bond Exhibition in Covent Garden.

End result of the event was some very drinkable martinis, great photos, lasting memories for the guests & a satisfied client on the day!

Guests arrived at an exclusive Private Members Club in the Heart of the City, but didn’t have long to relax in the luxurious surroundings! Half of the group headed straight for a Martini-making master class..

Whilst the other half of the group took in a Classic Bond film in the oh so cool Cinema room, whilst sampling a selection of Bond-inspired Martinis!
